The rural parish of Huntingfield lies 4 miles west of Halesworth on the undulations of the Blyth valley. It has irregular boundaries with the villages of Cookley, Heveningham, Walpole, Linstead and Cratfield. The village is 12 miles from the seaside town of Southwold and 30 miles from Ipswich. It covers a large area that is sparsely populated, mainly agricultural and dotted with farmhouses and individual dwellings. Most people live in the village of Huntingfield itself, centred around the pub and church.
Huntingfield's distinctive village sign was designed by artist and local resident, David Gentleman in 2005. It stands pride of place on the village green.

Heveningham is a small village of about 120 residents and is located about 4 miles from Halesworth. The main street - The Street - is a mix of colourful old houses. There is an old Post Office, the pub which sadly closed some years ago, the Old Forge and the Old School. The village is dominated by St. Margaret Church which was founded in 1539 and is a grade 1 listed building. The other major feature is Heveningham Hall which is privately owned It was built in 1778 for Sir Gerard Vanneck (a Dutch Merchant) by the architect James Wyatt; After an extensive fire in 1984 the house was renovated and restored in 1994. Heveningham Hall holds a number of events including a fair at Christmas time and in the summer. The community is friendly and active and supports each other and the environment
In 2013 the EADT reported: The Blyth begins its modest journey to the sea near the high Suffolk village of Laxfield and drops down at nearby Ubbeston into a narrow vale, so breathtakingly beautiful that you want to weep for all the countryside that is lost… People in Ubbeston, a tiny rural settlement that does not even qualify as a hamlet
In 2013 the EADT reported: The Blyth begins its modest journey to the sea near the high Suffolk village of Laxfield and drops down at nearby Ubbeston into a narrow vale, so breathtakingly beautiful that you want to weep for all the countryside that is lost… People in Ubbeston, a tiny rural settlement that does not even qualify as a hamlet, do appreciate the beauty of our special place. The three working farms and many smallholdings and the mainly pre twentieth century houses testify to the timelessness of the place. The settlement is geographically divided into two halves: The Green, in name only these days, with its farmhouses and former alehouse, The Wheatsheaf, borders both sides of the B1117; the church now a private dwelling, Ubbeston Hall on the site of the Kemps’ former mansion of the same name, the Old Rectory situated on the border of Heveningham village are all on the delightful, tree lined Low Road, probably an ancient lane, which runs from Laxfield to Heveningham. The rustic charm and rural tranquillity, despite the main road, appeal to a number of annual visitors, who stay in our various holiday lets. Although our houses are scattered, there is a strong sense of community and locals have got together on many occasions such as organised tree walks, celebrations and carol singing. The loss of the alehouse and the parish room in the middle of the last century deprived Ubbeston of a central meeting place but now our residents take advantage of the many opportunities to gather at the Hub, from holding our Parish Council meetings and attending the organised functions and classes to hiring the hall at special local rates. A much appreciated asset!
