Hall for All in Huntingfield

It will be obvious to all those of you who have been out and about in the village during the last few weeks that finally, after all the planning, fund raising etc., the new village hall is taking shape. A great viewing point to see what’s going on is up on the Millennium Green where you can look down on the site. The photograph shows the beams going in - the next day it was concreted over! A photographic record is being kept of the various stages of the operation. Check the Huntingfield.org website for more pictures.

Our main contractor is SEH French from Ipswich - they are doing a tremendous job, in the four weeks since construction began they are already three weeks ahead of schedule! The build is expected to be completed by mid March 2016.

What a difference a couple of months make! 

The photograph in the last Hare showed the beams going in which were then concreted over - the substructure. Now the roof is going on! My goodness how these men work - and yes, it is only men, I haven’t seen any women on site except of course our Lucy, the architect of this new village hall. Although there have been minor setbacks, i.e. the roof trusses were a week late in arriving and so held the construction up, however, the builders are still 3 weeks ahead of schedule. The Hall for All Committee continue to be very busy, a progress update leaflet has been prepared and delivered to all residents in our neighbouring villages of Heveningham and Ubbeston to let them know how things are going. They don’t, of course, get updates through the Hare. All the chairs, tables and staging have been delivered and being stored until the new hall is completed. The audio visual equipment has been ordered. It’s getting to be very exciting. However, it’s not all plain sailing, there are so many decisions to be made on a daily basis - the responsibility sometimes feels very weighty on the head of the committee members! When construction is complete the residents of the three villages, Huntingfield, Heveningham & Ubbeston, will be invited to a private preview before ‘members of the public’ are invited in.
